A Guide to the Olympics
As the 2012 Summer Olympic Games begin in London, we wish to provide a brief update regarding coverage of the games on our cable TV system. The majority of the live coverage will take place on KGW (channel 8 or 208 in HD) over the next two weeks starting tomorrow. Select live events and most replays will be on other NBC Universal channels; including KGW, NBC Sports Network, CNBC, and MSNBC and Bravo. Clear Creek Communications does not carry MSNBC or Bravo on its channel lineup and the content scheduled for those channels will not be available to our customers.
NBC Universal requires cable TV operators to pay extra each month for the alternative feed of the Olympic games. Clear Creek Communications elected to pay for the alternative feed for the 2008 and 2012 Olympic games. This was done to ensure our customers received the Olympic coverage on the NBC Universal channels we carry. It is for that reason, you can enjoy the Olympic coverage on KGW, NBC Sports Network, and CNBC. In addition to this extensive live coverage of Olympic events we are pleased to bring you 500 hours of Olympics In HD on our Video On Demand platform. Simply push the On Demand button or tune to Channel 1 and select Free On Demand, or HD On Demand then select 2012 London Olympics and enjoy.
New to the 2012 Summer games is online streaming, an exciting advance that we thought we would be able to participate. We attended many technical discussions to work through the complex details of providing this option to our customers. Unfortunately, during that process NBC Universal made the decision that despite the fact that we had paid the Olympics surcharge systems had to have MSNBC on their system since the 2008 Olympics to participate in the streaming content. This impacted many cable systems including Clear Creek Communications who anticipated the ability to participate.
Despite our disappointment that we could not bring you the full “Live Extra” online schedule there still will be many opportunities to stream Olympic coverage online. You can locate and select this content at the NBC Olympics website (see www.nbcolympics.com/video) and the NBC Olympics YouTube Channel (see www.youtube.com/user/2012NBCOlympics).
