Negotiations between the NCTC and MTV Networks have been ongoing for several months and are continuing this week. Negotiators from MTVN are meeting in the NCTC's office. Their goal and top priority is to complete a reasonable agreement by the scheduled January 15 expiration of the current extension. NCTC also reports that negotiations will likely go down to the wire. We will continue to provide customers with updated information as it becomes available.
Clear Creek Telephone & TeleVision cable TV customers will continue to receive their programming on all of the MTV Networks carried by Clear Creek Telephone & TeleVision through the current extension. We wanted to communicate with you about the potential loss of MTVN signals as a result of these negotiations. Please rest assured that the NCTC will be working hard to obtain a fair contract with MTV Networks and minimize inconvenience to our customers. We will continue to update this topic as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your patience, understanding and support. We and the NCTC are doing everything that we can to reach a fair long-term agreement with MTV Networks because we know how important your shows are to you. The most important thing to us is bringing you the best programming available at a reasonable price. While paying just a little more for a given channel may not seem important - when you consider the total number of channels it adds up quickly.
January 7, 2010 -- Important Announcement:
Several MTV Network Channels May Be Denied Carriage Due To Contract Negotiations
Clear Creek Telephone & TeleVision and MTV Networks have been negotiating a contract for CMT, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Spike, TV Land, VH1, CMT Pure Country, MTV 2, Nick Jr., Teen Nick, Nick Toons TV, and VH1 Classic for several months. The contract expired Dec. 31, 2009. MTV Networks has granted Clear Creek temporary consent to broadcast these channels through Jan. 14, 2010 while we continue to negotiate. If we are unable to agree to MTV Network's terms for carriage of these channels, they will be removed from our channel line-up.
According to Clear Creek President, Mitchell Moore, "Clear Creek is committed to negotiate in good faith on behalf of our members and make every attempt to limit the impact of MTV Network's demands on cable customer bills. Unfortunately, MTV Networks is committed to significant increases for each of these channels."
Moore continued, "We believe that the amount demanded by MTV Networks is excessive. Cable bills for our customers have increased significantly due to retransmission consent agreements and other contracts. At Clear Creek we are working to keep cable rates as affordable as possible for our members."
