Oregon City High School senior, Ali Tucker, was recently selected to receive a 2012 Foundation for Rural Education and Development (FRED) scholarship for $1,000. As a member of a national telecommunications association, Clear Creek Communications’ members are eligible to apply for a FRED scholarship and we are so very pleased that Ali was granted a scholarship. This year FRED received more than 200 outstanding applications from rural students throughout the country. The FRED Scholarship Committee selected the top 52 applications and granted a scholarship to each of the selected students.

Ali has lived in the Clear Creek Communications service area since she was a small child; through the years she has learned a great appreciation for the rural way of life she has been privileged to experience. When asked what her dream job would be when she is finished with college, without hesitation Ali said she would like to work as a photographer. Growing up in a rural setting afforded her with many opportunities to photograph nature and photography has become her greatest passion.
However, Ali understands that it is pretty hard to ‘make it’ in that profession as sole support so she plans to study psychology and sociology/anthropology as well. Though not decided on a specific career she hopes to work in a position that will have an impact on other people’s lives – perhaps through pioneering new research, counseling, or doing social work.
Ali has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and is rated the number one student in her class of 497 students at Oregon City High School. Ali is committed and determined to work hard and maintain good grades throughout her college years, too. Ali’s drive, commitment, abilities, and academic achievements made her a great candidate for the scholarship award and we hope it will help put her on the road to achieving the many goals she has for her future.
